There are everyday people whose lives are changing as a result of the state’s budget problems. We’re collecting stories of some of these people Caught in the Middle.

Some social service programs and agencies around Illinois have seen financial support from the state government wither as a result of the budget impasse in Springfield.  Emily Miller, with Voices for Illinois Children, is an advocate for those organizations and the families they serve. She reaches out to the lawmakers who ultimately decide what gets funded. Miller says her work - and her view of government - have changed because of the impasse.
