‘El Chapo’ recaptured

On Friday, Joaquín Guzmán Loera - the Mexican drug trafficker known as “El Chapo”, was recaptured by Mexican authorities. He had been on the run for months. Guzmán’s famed escape from a Mexican prison - considered cinematic by many - was a source of embarrassment for the Mexican government. Now, even his capture is immersed in celebrity. Parallel to Guzmán’s capture, Rolling Stone magazine released a feature on the drug lord. While Guzmán still eluded authorities, actor and activist, Sean Penn, interviewed him for Rolling Stone. Meanwhile, Washington has started extradition proceedings to bring Guzmán to the U.S. for trial. We’ll talk about the varied elements of the “El Chapo” affair with Laura Carlsen, director of the Americas program for the Center for International Policy, based in Mexico City. She also hosts the online television program, “Interview from Mexico”. GUESTS: Laura Carlsen is director of the Americas program for the Center for International Policy, based in Mexico City.
