Global Notes: Che Apalache and Making Movies
By Jenny FriedlandGlobal Notes: Che Apalache and Making Movies
By Jenny FriedlandOn this week’s edition of “Global Notes,” Catalina Maria Johnson introduces us to two bands that are making some noise in Chicago this week: Che Apalache and Making Movies. Based in Buenos Aires, Che Apalache is a four-man string band featuring members from Argentina, Mexico and the United States. Joining the show is Joe Troop, who previously taught bluegrass and old-time music for a living. Three of his students soon became his bandmates when Troop founded Che Apalache.
Meanwhile, two pairs of brothers make up Making Movies, a rock band based out of Kansas City, Missouri. Their new album, “ameri’kana”, comes out this month, and we get a sneak peak here on Worldview. Joining us to play some music in studio are all four members of Making Movies: Enrique Chi, Juan Carlos Chaurand, Andres Chaurand and Diego Chi.
Catalina Maria Johnson is the host/producer of “Beat Latino” on Vocalo.
