Global Notes: Surabhi Ensemble Celebrates WBEZ Host Tony Sarabia’s Last Hurrah!

For nearly a decade, WBEZ’s Tony Sarabia joined Worldview on Wednesdays for Global Notes, a look at international music.  As he retires this week from radio for a new life as an Iowa goat-farmer, Tony bids us farewell with a live performance by one of his favorite bands. Surabhi Ensemble, a Chicago-based world music group, was founded by Veena artiste Saraswathi Ranganathan. The band’s mission is to “[bring] together people to celebrate diverse global cultures, musical genres, race, religion, and color!”  Join us as we reminisce with Tony, and hear Surabhi play from their catalog - a mix of “…music and dance from the Indian, African, Middle Eastern and Spanish flamenco traditions!”
