The Special Olympics Celebrates its 50th Anniversary in Chicago - Where it Began

Fifty years ago today, Eunice Kennedy Shriver officially commenced the first Special Olympics in Chicago. Its 50th anniversary is also being commemorated, this weekend, in Chicago. We’ll hear Mrs. Shriver’s 1968 opening speech at Soldier Field. We’ll also hear her son, current Special Olympics head, Timothy Shriver, talk about a memorable moment from the 1968 games. We’ll also hear an excerpt from the original documentary on the 1968 games, “A Dream to Grow On”.
