Award-winning author Rebecca Goldstein talks about her most recent book. Through the enchantment of fiction, she shows that the tension between religion and doubt cannot be understood solely through rational argument. It must be explored from the inside, from the point of view of individual people caught in the raptures and torments of religious experiences.

Rebecca Goldstein is a novelist and professor of philosophy. She did her undergraduate work at Barnard College and earned her PhD from Princeton University. Her novels include Mind-Body Problem and Mazel, winner of the 1995 National Jewish Book Award, and Betraying Spinoza, winner of the 2006 Koret International Jewish Book Award. She was named a MacArthur Fellow in 1996.

Recorded Thursday, January 21, 2010 at Spertus Institute of Jewish Studies.
