The founder of one of Chicago’s largest farmers markets has died. High-end chefs, foodies and amateur cooks alike will remember Abby Mandel Meyer her for her taste.

Abby Mandel Meyer was big on locally grown foods. That’s something she shared with the many vendors and shoppers of the market she started ten years ago, the Green City Market. She was also big on sharing recipes. Mandel Meyer’s readers know the cookbook author and food columnist for her high level of taste.

So far this year the Green City Market has seen more than 40,000 visitors. That’s twice the number of this time last year.

Mandel Meyer died yesterday morning after a year-long struggle with mantle cell lymphoma. She was 75.
