Activists Rally Against Closing Of Uptown Homeless Shelter

Activists and homeless people staged a rally in Uptown this morning outside a shelter that’s scheduled to close two days before Christmas. The men’s shelter at the People’s Church in Uptown has 72 beds, but only about 30 are occupied. The shelter stopped accepting new residents in October, after the closing was announced. A board member for the group that runs the shelter said its budget stresses were made worse by the state’s ongoing budget mess.
