On Wednesday, at least 17 people were killed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, and 15 others were wounded. It’s the deadliest mass school shooting since the 2012 massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. 

The suspect is a former student, 19 year old Nikolas Cruz. He had been identified as a potential threat in the past. Overall, this is the 18th school shooting to be carried out in the first 45 days of the year. David Smiley, a reporter for the Miami Herald, brings us the latest.

Plus: Jared Moskowitz, a Democratic member of the Florida House of Representatives, representing the 97th District, which includes Parkland in northern Broward County, and an alumni of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, also reflects on the tragedy. 

“It’s the same story … The only thing that changes is the name of the shooter, the name of the victims and the location of the school,” says Rep. Moskowitz. “Doing nothing is consistent. The one thing we are when it comes to shootings is consistent — we will do nothing.”
