American Airlines is defending its security practices after a mistake by a security inspector delayed 40 flights at O’Hare Airport.

A Transportation Security Administration officer performed a routine check-up of 9 American Eagle planes parked overnight at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport. American Airlines, the parent company of American Eagle, says the inspector hanged on sensitive equipment mounted on the aircraft fuselages to pull himself up to the door. And this action delayed flights at the airport on Tuesday.

American spokesman Tim Wagner says the company followed all security procedures following what he calls the security officer’s inappropriate behavior. He says the airline conducted inspections required by the Federal Aviation Administration. No damage was found on the aircrafts.
