Chicago’s Department of Transportation hopes this pothole season will be smoother than the past. Department spokesman Brian Steele says the department was able to resurface more streets this year thanks to 86 million dollars in federal stimulus money.

STEELE: We’re cautiously optimistic that this pothole season won’t be as bad as previous winters, but of course that really remains to be seen and really is a function of the weather.

Steele says the department usually gets up to 12 million dollars from the city each year to repair potholes.
