As temperatures drop, how are Chicagoans meeting needs of people living in tents?

There are not enough shelter beds and affordable housing in Chicago, and that affects migrants and the unhoused.

Chicago’s point-in-time survey measures the number of homeless people in the city. In 2022, more than 1,000 people experienced unsheltered homelessness, though another, broader homelessness count puts the number of homeless Chicagoans into the many tens of thousands. Meanwhile, thousands of migrants are sleeping at, and outside of, police stations.

Reset hears from service providers about how they’re bringing basic services to these populations, and what’s needed moving forward.
