Major construction begins at about 8 o’clock Monday tonight on the Bishop Ford Freeway. The work will take place on I-94 between MLK Drive and 159th Street. Marisa Kollias is a spokesperson for the Illinois Department of Transportation.

KOLLIAS: The effort will involve resurfacing all the lanes and all the shoulders, some pavement patching. We will be working on two bridges, and there will also be instillation of new guard rails. So I definitely think the public will be pleased when the project is completed.

Some traffic headaches will likely go along with those improvements. Kollias says heavy congestion is expected throughout the summer. Most of the lane closures will take place during night-time hours, but she says some closures will be necessary during weekdays and on weekends.
