cityroom_20100421_cmitchell_2144426_Bish_large Here is our 12-minute interview with Thomas Paprocki, an auxiliary bishop of Chicago’s Roman Catholic archdiocese. As we reported this morning, Paprocki defends some 2007 remarks about large payouts to people sexually abused by priests. The remarks were part of a homily, “Carrying the Cross in a Litigious Culture,” that he delivered to Catholic lawyers and judges in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Referring to victim lawsuits, Paprocki told them that “the principal force behind these attacks is none other than the devil.” The homily has emerged as a topic since Tuesday, when the church announced Paprocki would be the next bishop of the diocese in Springfield, Illinois. I begin the interview by asking about the difference between a homily and a speech. Paprocki_interview
