Opening statements are scheduled to take place this Monday in the retrial of former Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich.  It comes after attorneys spent more than a week on jury selection.

There’s a pool of about 40 jurors who will show up to court, but most of them will be sent right back home.  That’s because attorneys on both sides get to strike a few final jurors from the pool, no questions asked.

When 12 jurors and six alternates are seated, prosecutors will make their opening statement which is expected to last about an hour.  Blagojevich’s defense attorneys say they’ll take an hour, as well.  It’s expected that the first witness will also take the stand Monday.  That witness will likely be Daniel Cain, an FBI agent who will talk about the process agents used when they tapped the governor’s phones at his office and home.
