On the anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks, Chicago’s City Council is allowing one prominent business to bolster security.

The measure allows the Chicago Board of Trade to add posts, planters, and benches around the building.

The decorative items will keep vehicles from parking too close to the exchange.

Kevin Lennon manages real estate operations for the Chicago Board of Trade.

“About two years ago there was a threat specifically against financial institutions and that raised additional concerns and so we decided to move forward on putting some sort of protective barriers around the building,” Lennon says.

Lennon says the precautions aren’t in response to any particular threat.

The Board of Trade expects the security updates to be done next summer.
