19 years ago this week, the temperature in Chicago would hit 106 degrees. The heat index, which measures how hot it feels, was as high as 126 degrees. The heatwave would last for that entire week. At the end of it, power grids had failed, city streets had literally buckled and more than 700 hundred had died.
