British doctors go on strike to protest new contract

On January 12th, junior doctors in England took part in a 24-hour general strike. Junior doctors are medical professionals who have been in practice for 10 to 15 years. It was the first time members of the NHS, the UK’s National Health Service, have gone on strike in the last 40 years. The doctors are in dispute over a recent contract that would slightly raise basic pay, but at the expense of providing more service on weekends. They plan to strike again in February.
