The northwest suburb of Carpentersville has been making the news lately.

Not for its charming river or historical preservation, but for a proposed law targeting undocumented immigrants.

The village board put the proposal on hold this month.

But that hasn’t calmed tensions or reconnected a town that’s grown more divided over the years.
