This episode of the Barber Shop Show is straight out of the current issue of The Chicago Reporter. In this issue, The Reporter is highlighting how harsher drug legislation is impacting communities. The Reporter’s own Angela Caputo tackles two facets of this situation: and the increasing number of convictions for drug-related crimes, and the growing cost to incarcerate those who are convicted. We talk to Michael Flowers and Eric Ware. They are from a block in Chicago’s Austin Community that has the highest concentration of convictions in the city. They are also trying to turn their lives around after years of selling and using drugs. We also talk to Elce Redmond and Bob Dougherty, two people trying to help people who’ve made the decision to start over.
