Though they’re currently illegal in Chicago, tiny homes are now a line item in Mayor Lightfoot’s 2023 budget.
In her budget address last week, Mayor Lori Lightfoot announced she’s setting aside $3 million for the construction of tiny homes. Tiny homes still need to be legalized, but they would be built in communities on city-owned property.
