Turning 18 is a big milestone in life — you can vote, join the military, open your own bank account and buy a lottery ticket. But for Shawn Sturges, 33, that year was also when he lost his sight. Suddenly, the world as he knew it changed drastically.

With time, and through climbing, Sturges said he found a way to rise above challenges and to keep ascending.

In this installment of Reset’s “Chicago Creatives” series, Sturges talks about paving a new way after losing his sight.
