Chicago landmarks birthplace of house music

The Warehouse was a central hub for house music and served as a safe space for queer Chicagoans in the mid-1980s.

 

Chicago’s City Council approved Wednesday the landmark status for the Warehouse. Music director and resident DJ Frankie Knuckles helped the dance club grow to be regarded as the birthplace of house music.
