Chicago Police Boosts Mental Health Resources For Officers

Stress, danger and trauma are part of the job when you’re a police officer. But in Chicago, mental health resources for officers are scarce.

The suicide rate for police officers in the Chicago Police Department is 60 percent higher than the national average for officers across the country.

And according to data obtained by WBEZ, CPD officers are seeking more help from department therapists than ever before. This increase coincides with the addition of more mental health providers.

Morning Shift talks to WBEZ’s Patrick Smith for more on this issue.
