Chicago attorneys and activists are planning a monument to memorialize the victims of police torture.

The group is asking artists to submit proposals for the monument. Group members say their goal is “to honor the survivors of torture, their family members, and the African American communities affected by the torture.”

The launch for the project is set for Tuesday at the Hull House in Chicago.

The launch will include attorneys who’ve represented police torture victims and a man who says Chicago police tortured him into confessing to murder.

For decades, scores of suspects - most of them young black men - have claimed Chicago police beat, kicked and shocked them into giving confessions.

Former Chicago police Lt. Jon Burge was convicted last year of lying about torture.
