Democratic gubernatorial candidate Chris Kennedy wants to crack down on gun trafficking.

He believes Illinois needs to get tough on railroad company Norfolk Southern.

The company’s rail yard on Chicago’s South Side was the scene of a 2015 break-in of a parked cargo train that contained guns bound for the West Coast. More than 111 firearms were taken, and 19 were later believed to have been used in Chicago-area crimes.

Kennedy believes the state has authority to seize the rail yard if the railroad doesn’t agree to beef up security to prevent future thefts.
