City Colleges of Chicago Air Their Concerns
By Odette YousefA broad coalition of unions that work at City Colleges of Chicago is coming together to demand public hearings about changes at their schools. At a packed town hall meeting last night, many said that consolidating academic and training programs to certain campuses, and raising part-time tuition will limit opportunities for low-income and minority students.
Aldermen who were there said City Council isn’t likely to hold hearings on these changes anytime soon — because Mayor Rahm Emanuel has yet to appoint a new Education Committee chair.
