Commissioner Wants To Exempt Electronic Music Shows From Amusement Tax

Cook County Code exempts shows at small venues from an amusement tax if the music falls under the umbrella of “fine arts.”

Recently, some venues that host DJ-shows and electronic dance music have been hit with county back-tax bills of almost $200,000 because the county says that music is not “fine art.”

On Tuesday, Cook County Commissioner John Fritchey introduced an amendment that would exempt those shows from the tax.
