CPS Announces Teacher And Staff Lay-offs

As Chicago Public School students move into the final days of summer, some of their teachers will be applying for new jobs. 

On Friday, the district announced they were cutting nearly 500 teaching and 500 support staff positions. CPS says the move is a response to changing enrollment numbers, and those people affected are eligible to apply for other jobs in the school district. To explain why this shifting takes place is WBEZ education reporter Sarah Karp.
