Speculation continues over whether Chicago Mayor Richard Daley will run for re-election.

Questions about the mayor’s political future were fueled by a recent interview from White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, who said he’d like to one day run for mayor of Chicago as long as Daley wasn’t in the race.

After not taking questions from reporters all week, Daley talked about Emanuel’s wishes on Friday.

DALEY: Sure, everybody would like to be the mayor. This is a great city. This is a great city. Everybody would love to be mayor of the City of Chicago.

Daley calls Emanuel a good friend and says the former Congressman is not stepping on his toes.

DALEY: I thought it was something he should be proud of. Someday he would like to be mayor of the City of Chicago.

When asked if he plans to run for mayor again in next year’s election, the mayor responded:

DALEY: Next question.

Daley said he wasn’t there to talk about his future.
