The post-election turmoil of the summer of 2009 posed enormous challenges to the government of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, inviting international condemnation of his regime’s brutal acts to suppress the democratic aspirations of Iran’s Green Movement. Today, upheaval in the Middle East has reinvigorated pro-reform sentiment in Iran and galvanized the opposition movement to again take to the streets in protest. Listen in as Nobel Laureate and Iranian human rights advocate Shirin Ebadi discusses the Iran of today and years past, addressing the geopolitical implications of Iran’s nuclear development, its denunciation of Israel, and its self-designation as the most powerful force in the Middle East and Muslim world.

Recorded Monday, April 25, 2011 at Sofitel Chicago Water Tower.
