Starting today, disabled veterans can ride for free on Chicago Transit Authority buses and trains.

In February, the CTA offered free rides to U.S. military dressed in full uniform. And now, disabled veterans and active military personnel dressed in civilian clothing have a chance to ride free. A CTA spokesperson says those who qualify can register for the new CTA Military Service Pass starting today.

Active military and disabled veterans can apply by presenting an Armed Forces identification card or a letter from the U.S. Department of Veterans’ Affairs. The CTA will conduct registration at several veterans centers around the city through the end of the year.
