One of the largest domestic violence shelters in Chicago is temporarily closing.

The Rainbow House ran into financial troubles after some grants were not renewed.

Felicia Ramos is a case manager for the shelter.

She says they’re hoping to reopen the shelter after they secure funding.

“Basically, it’s a time for us to work on the grant proposals that are asking us to justify the money we have and to look for new funding sources,” Ramos said. “I mean, we’re really going to go grassroots on this.”

Residents of the shelter are being relocated to other domestic violence shelters around Chicago.
