Tickets for Barack Obama’s election night rally in Grant Park were snatched up online in a matter of hours. The Website set up for tickets is now only accepting names for a waiting list.

The Obama campaign won’t say how many tickets will be distributed. But it’s no doubt the Grant Park passes are in high demand.

As if it were some major sporting event or a huge rock concert, people are looking online to sell or purchase tickets for the free rally. Many are taking to the classified ad Website, Craigslist. Only a few people seem to be selling with some tickets going for as much as $500.

Those desperate to attend the event offered cash and things like lawn mowing service and a chance to meet the band members of the Smashing Pumpkins.

Meantime, Chicago Mayor Richard Daley on Wednesday let slip a few details about where Obama supporters can go who aren’t able to get tickets. Daley says there will be standing room only sections of Grant Park open to non-ticket holders.

DALEY: One section would have tickets, but on Columbus and Balbo and all that, those are all standing rooms. I mean, that’s all the way back.

Daley backed off comments he made Tuesday that he hopes a million people show up for Obama’s election night event. The mayor says Obama’s campaign is handling the details such as projection screens and speakers. A spokesperson for Obama’s campaign wouldn’t confirm any of Daley’s comments or say what the plans are for the overflow crowd.
