Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel has moved back into the home that was at the center of a legal battle last year over his residency - and whether he should be allowed to run for the office of mayor.

Opponents of Emanuel’s mayoral candidacy contended the former White House chief of staff didn’t meet the residency requirement because he lived for nearly two years in Washington and rented out his home during that time. 

Emanuel moved back to Chicago in last fall, after Mayor Richard Daley announced he wouldn’t seek a seventh term.

Since renter Rob Halpin vacated the house in the Ravenswood neighborhood, Emanuel has been renovating the home, which a spokesman says the mayor moved back into this weekend.

Emanuel told reporters he rode a Chicago Transit Authority train to work Tuesday. He was accompanied by his security detail.
