Peter Brötzmann is a musician and artist who lives and works in the small city of Wuppertal, Germany. Brötzmann’s visits to Chicago are frequent, and his collaborations with members of the city’s improvised music scene are prolific. His local ensembles include the Chicago Octet, the Chicago Tentet and the Chicago Tentet Plus Two! Brötzmann is a giant of the free jazz world – with a saxophone sound like no other. But despite spending his formative years in famous artistic circles like the Fluxus Group, he’s not as well known for his visual art.

Now, some recent exhibits here are raising his painterly profile. We stopped by his latest show, at the Corbett vs. Dempsey Gallery in Chicago’s Bucktown neighborhood. Brötzmann began their tour of his show, by expressing his love for his work.
