Federal Trade Commission sues to block merger of Mariano’s and Jewel parent companies

Nine states joined the FTC in attempting to block the biggest grocery merger, which would affect Jewel Osco and Mariano’s stores.

   

The FTC cited concerns that the merger of Kroger and Albertsons, the parent companies of Mariano’s and Jewel-Osco respectively, would lessen competition and increase prices for consumers. Additionally, there are concerns that the merger would affect worker’s ability to seek higher wages and better benefits.
