Immigration and Customs Enforcement says 30 Chicago-area residents are in jail after a four-day sweep targeting what the agency calls “fugitive aliens.”

Immigration spokeswoman Gail Montenegro says agents found them in homes and workplaces.

Montenegro says the operation sought immigrants with criminal histories. “But we’re also targeting anyone who has remained in the country with an outstanding deportation order,” she adds.

The agency says its fugitive program has led to 72,000 arrests nationwide since it started five years ago.
