Film Fest Brings Nonaction Films From Asia To Chicago Audiences

When movies from Marvel or DC are released, they get the full studio treatment, complete with press junkets and marketing. Nonaction films from Asia don’t quite experience the same roll-out. Many skip the theater release but find a following online. Sophia Wong Boccio wants to ensure those films don’t get overlooked. She’s the founder and executive director of Asian Pop-up Cinema, which starts weekly screenings on Wednesday at venues around the city. We talk to Wong Boccio about her push to highlight these films and drive interest in Asian movie-making.
