At the heart of all the Ferguson protests in Chicago is the question of how the Chicago Police Department interacts with citizens. And one of the biggest strains on that relationship is the perception that misbehaving officers act as if they are above the law.Two former University of Chicago students claim they were brutally beaten by plainclothes Chicago police officers back in 2010, and they are out today with an article in VICE about the experience and their struggle for justice since then. The city of Chicago settled their federal lawsuit for $185,000 last year. All three officers named in that lawsuit are still on the police force. It’s important to note that a settlement is not an admission of guilt. The police department says they can’t comment because the 2010 incident is still being investigated by the Independent Police Review Authority, but the two alleged victims - Matthew Clark and his co-plantiff, are with us today.
