But long before Prime Minister Gunnlaugsson’s political problems many people in Iceland were already critical of his regime, including an unlikely hip-hop group.
The Daughters of Reykjavik is an ever-expanding, 20-member female rap collective from Iceland who talk about a variety of topics ranging from corrupt politics to rape culture. The band’s Salka Valsdottir joins us to share some of their music and talk about their place in the Icelandic hip-hop scene.
