The Chicago Sinfonietta calls itself “the nation’s most diverse symphony orchestra.” This coming weekend – the ensemble closes out its 23rd season with a celebration of that diversity. Grammy award-winning conductor, John McLaughlin Williams will join founding music director Paul Freeman on the podium. In the orchestra pit, the Sinfonietta will host the Harlem Quartet. This string quartet – made up of two violins, a viola and a cello – brings with it a lot of the flavor from the New York City neighborhood. One of the quartet’s violinists Melissa White tells us more.
