A high-ranking Chicago police officer is suing the City of Chicago and the Independent Police Review Authority for what he calls a botched investigation. The officer, former police commander Glenn Evans, is also suing WBEZ, which reported on the case, for publishing confidential and incomplete information.

An IPRA investigation of an excessive force complaint against Evans led to criminal charges that he allegedly shoved a gun down a man’s throat. Evans was acquitted in Cook County court in December.

The suit alleges Matrice Campbell, an IPRA investigator, held a grudge against Evans and wanted to retaliate by leaking records to the press, namely WBEZ reporter Chip Mitchell. In a statement, WBEZ said the suit is baseless and will defend the matter vigorously. The city did not respond to requests for comment.
