Illinois Governor Pat Quinn is meeting with governors from nearby states who want to set priorities for a high speed rail plan for the area. Illinois is among 40 states vying for billions of dollars in federal funds toward rail improvement projects. While Illinois seems to lead the competition, Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood, a former U.S. Congressman from Peoria, is calling for a czar to coordinate efforts in the Midwest region. Alison Cuddy recently talked with Richard Harnish, the executive director of the non-profit Midwest High-Speed Rail Association. He explains how a 220 MPH rail system would serve us.
