Illinois environmentalists hail new EPA power plan

Wednesday morning a group of business and faith leaders will be joining two Democratic Congressman and Attorney General Lisa Madigan to give their reaction to the federal government’s new rules to curb carbon emissions from power plants. Meanwhile, Illinois business interests and environmental groups are starting to chart out what it will mean for the future of energy in our state. Illinois gets about 45 percent of its electricity from coal, but we also have nuclear power as well as solar and wind. The new rules call for a 32 percent reduction in carbon emissions from power plants nationwide, but each state will have its own individual mandate. Joining us is Rebecca Stanfield, Deputy Director for Policy of the National Resources Defense Council’s Midwest Program. (Flickr.Thomas Kohler)
