Illinois Supreme Court Justice Anne Burke is returning a bulk of the money her re-election campaign has collected. She raised nearly $1.5-million. Campaign spokesman John Simon says Burke raised the money before she knew she wouldn’t be opposed. Simon says she’ll return around $1-million of the money back to her contributors.

SIMON: The point is that at the end of this campaign, Justice Burke will not be retaining any of the monies that were raised by her campaign.

Simon says Burke will save some of the money to support fellow Democrats running for judge in Cook County. A spokesperson for a political watchdog group says the move is highly unusual and Burke should be commended for returning the money.
