With North Carolina at the center of controversy around their latest transgender bathroom legislation, a new report from Human Rights Watch reveals that LGBT rights in Japan are under threat as well. 

The report examines how gay and lesbian students face relentless school bullying while officials have done little to take their concerns seriously and implement strong anti-bullying measures. The situation for transgender students can be worse; a national law mandates a mental disorder diagnosis and other medical procedures before someone can be legally recognized according to their gender identity. 

Kyle Knight, a researcher in the LGBT rights program at Human Rights Watch joins us to discuss their latest report.
