Lisa Madigan is the incumbent Attorney General of Illinois. But her name has been floated for pretty much every high level political opportunity coming down the pike of late. 

Madigan’s been considered a potential candidate for U.S. Senator, Illinois Governor, and two vacancies on the U.S. Supreme Court. Some consider her an eventual contender for President – or even Mayor of Chicago. 

She’s done a lot with her current office. She made Illinois the first state to require local law enforcement to submit DNA rape kits to the State Police for investigation. 

Madigan has also championed consumer rights, on issues ranging from fair lending for home buyers to safe cribs for children. Last month she and 16 other Attorneys General forced the removal of the “Adults Services” page from Craigslist. And just yesterday she launched an investigation into 23 companies that provide mortgage services. Madigan wants these companies to go back and check that their foreclosure proceedings are fair and accurate.

She is the first woman to be elected Attorney General of Illinois and she would like to stay in the position despite rumors of a run for Mayor of Chicago.
