Prenatal screening tests are widely used to predict many or any problems with a pregnancy. But there’s a growing concern about a relatively new generation of tests being used because there are chances it gives the wrong information. That almost led to one married couple to terminate their pregnancy because they thought their baby would be born with a genetic condition associate with serve defects. Their story was included in a piece called, Have new prenatal tests been dangerously oversold? The piece was written by Beth Daley, reporter and director of partnerships at the center of the New England Center for Investigative Reporting. Beth joins us with what the tests mean, who are companies that produce the technology and the role the federal government plays in regulating such tests.
