Despite strong pleas from U.S. allies, the Trump administration is moving forward with economic sanctions on Iran, just three months after withdrawing from the Iran Nuclear Deal. The first stage of the new sanctions, which takes effect today, prohibits Iran from buying U.S. dollars and bars the government from trading goods like steel, aluminium and gold. The second stage, coming in November, imposes more sanctions on Iran’s oil and shipping sectors. Iranians are furious. Protests have unfolded in the country. Joining us to discuss these sanctions, and how they will affect the people of Iran, is George A. Lopez.
